Wine author Richard Leahy today presented Virginia Secretary of Agriculture Bettina Ring with a copy of the new third edition (2020) of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines, his definitive book on Virginia wine, first published in 2012 by Sterling.

“I’m proud to present a copy of this new third edition of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines to Secretary Ring, who is quoted in the book,” said Leahy. “She supports the Virginia wine industry and can tell others about its latest developments, outlined in this book.”

The book’s foreword was written by renowned British wine authority Steven Spurrier, who in 2012, at the Virginia Wine Summit in Richmond, declared “My favorite North American wine region today is Virginia, because it makes the kinds of wines I like to have a second glass of.”

The third edition of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines underwent a complete re-write of listed wineries, says Leahy, and includes many new ones. Wineries mentioned had to have won silver or gold medals in recent years in the Governor’s Cup wine competition, and 2020 results are included. Beyond Jefferson’s Vines is available at a few Virginia wineries (currently Breaux, Horton and Ankida Ridge) as author-signed copies; others can be purchased online at Amazon.com by searching for the title and selecting the third edition.
