DuCard Vineyards in northern Madison County will soon release its first Reserve blend, called “Tiskele”, inspired by the “3”-way collaboration of Emily Pelton, Jake Busching and Matthieu Finot in the Monticello AVA, which is a three-way blend of merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc.

“Triskele” has the same ratios of the same three grapes, from a very good vintage for Virginia reds. The color is very dark. On the nose, ripe and spicy black fruits, especially black plum, opening to lovely scented bramblefruits with hints of oak. The palate yields rich, ripe juicy black fruits with smooth tannins, then firm long acid on the finish. Fresh black fruit and acid-driven. Still young but zesty now and will be more mellow by late fall. Will age well, robust and not oaky or over-extracted. Tasted with a talented winemaker friend who described it as “fantastic; nicely balanced and full-bodied.”
