Twenty-three wineries from the Monticello Wine Trail (MWT) competed in the 2017 Monticello Cup Wine Competition, which highlights the best wines of the Monticello American Viticultural Area (AVA). 

There were 14 Gold, 30 silver, and 15 bronze medals awarded this year. Three wineries received multiple gold medals, they were Jefferson Vineyards – 2015 Estate Reserve, 2014 Meritage, Michaels Shaps Wineworks – 2015 Petit Manseng, 2014 Cabernet Franc, 2014 Meritage, and Pollak Vineyards – 2014 Petit Verdot, 2014 Cabernet Franc. 

Of the golds, the Top 3 Red and Top 3 White wines, one of which is the overall Monticello Cup Winner for the highest-ranking wine will be announced live at the Monticello Cup Awards (MCA). Guests at the award ceremony will also be able to taste each of the gold and silver medal winners. 

The MCA is a ticketed event that’s open to the public and will take place onThursday, April 13, 6pm at the Jefferson Theater in downtown Charlottesville. The ceremony marks the start of the 2017 Taste of Monticello Wine Trail Festival, which runs April 13-15.
