VA Wine Expert Offers Customized Winery Tours of the Monticello Area, Mid-Shenandoah Valley
Coinciding with October Virginia Wine Month, Virginia Wine Expert and Author Richard Leahy has started Adventure Wine Tours, LLC. Adventure Wine Tours will offer custom, curated Virginia winery tours for curious or passionate wine persons eager to make new discoveries, specializing in wineries of the Monticello and mid-Shenandoah Valley viticultural areas.
Leahy, a wine industry professional and author of Beyond Jefferson’s Vines: The Evolution of Quality Wine in Virginia, the definitive book on Virginia wine in a third edition, has written on the subject since 1986. He has lived in Charlottesville for most of the last 32 years, and knows Virginia wineries, their owners and staff, and their track records well.
“Discovering wine should be an adventure,” he explains, which is the company’s slogan. “I love visiting local wineries wherever I go, and since I know the Virginia wine scene so well, I thought I’d offer my expertise as a level of service to clients who are eager to discover the world-class Virginia wines of today.” Another service he offers with Adventure Wine Tours is customizing winery visits for client preferences.
Leahy has been a judge for the final round of the Virginia Wine Governor’s Cup competition for over a decade and has coordinated the conference program for the Eastern Winery Exposition, the largest production wine industry conference and trade show east of the Pacific states, for eleven years.
